How blessed am I! I am thankful for my wonderful husband and the wonderful man that he is. I could never have imagined I would have been so lucky to have found someone that makes me smile as much as he does. I also am blessed by his family (my in-laws). They are wonderful and have accepted me into their family. We spent Wednesday evening together for my niece's 7th birthday and were able to visit with his sister and family (it was her daughter's birthday), his brother and family, and his cousin and family.
The birthday party was at Mr. Gatti's Pizza and I beat Aaron at Air Hockey - he didn't even score a point! :) He did beat me at Ski Ball most of the time. I also found out they had a Mrs. Pac Man. I love Mrs. Pac Man! We'll have to go back just for that game...
Thursday was a wonderful day as well. His mom and step-dad got into town that morning, though Aaron and I didn't make it over until a little before one. We met my parents, grandparents, and Aunt Olga for breakfast that morning. Mom and Dad made biscuits and gravy (it was so good!). When we were done there, we headed back to the house to make potato salad and green bean casserole. We didn't get finished with that until right before it was time to meet everyone for lunch. Joe fried a turkey (it was so moist and juicy!) and Jo Beth (Aaron's mom) brought all the sweets (and boy they sure were good!).
Because we were all about to be here for Thanksgiving, we also celebrated Christmas together. It's always nice to have the entire family together to celebrate - even if it's not on December 25th. I just love watching the kids open their presents. It's always so much fun. Devin had to work today so that clan left last night - a little after 9:00 p.m. We were all a little worried, but Jo Beth reported this morning they safely made it back to Dallas about 4:00 a.m. this morning. WOW! :) I'm glad they made it home safely. Nick - their youngest who just turned 5 - can already do many of his multiplication tables. It was quite unbelieveable! Go Nick!!
Today we celebrated Thanksgiving again with Aaron's mom and step-day, sister and family, and his Aunt Betty and Uncle David (his mom's sister and husband). His cousin, Jason, as there as well. Aaron and I brought the ham and cheese grits this time, but were about an hour later than what we told them we'd be. We realized we needed to carve the ham before we left which took about 30 - 45 minutes! It was crazy. We made it, though, and boy was the ham yummy. We'll also get a nice pot of beans out of it because we were able to keep the ham bone. My mom is going to share with me how to cook up the pot of beans. This was also my first time to make the cheese grits and, though they weren't as good as my moms (probably because I made them and she didn't), they were quite tasty. Though, as Aaron points out, when you put 1 1/2 sticks of butter and 1 lb. of Velvetta in something, it's going to taste good. :)
I had a wonderful and very blessed Thanksgiving, but I'm tired and very glad to be home. It's raining outside and a little frigid, so it's the perfect evening to be at home. The only thing that would make this evening more perfect is to be sitting by a fire. Maybe someday...
