Thanksgiving 2007

I wrote this post several weeks ago (after Thanksgiving), but apparently I forgot to publish! :)

Thanksgiving 2007 - and really Christmas 2007 for my husband's family. :)

I am blessed to have 3 days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. I do realize that. However, this year, it seemed as though I didn't have any days off. If I had to go in to work I might have had more rest than I got! :) I know many people can relate to that feeling - needing to go back to work to get rest from a vacation.

Wednesday morning (my husband did have to work) I woke up and went shopping. I had invited my sister and brother-in-law over for dinner that night, although I wasn't doing anything fancy. If you know me at all, you know I don't do anything fancy. I just put a roast in the crockpot with potatoes and green beans and...wahlah...I've got dinner! I did most of our Christmas shopping for my husband's family on Wednesday which took a big chunk of the day. I got back to the house just in time to clean and pick up a little before the family arrived for dinner. We had a nice evening.

Thursday we awoke early to go over to my parents house for breakfast - my mom had made eggs and pumpkin break (who can pass up pumpkin bread!). After that we had to make a "quick" trip to Wal-Mart (is there such a thing?) so my husband could purchase a PSP. In his words "I need something to do today so I can put up with your family." In his defense, my family is quite large and my grandparents house is quite small. You do the math. I would have liked to have a PSP. I love my family, but a lot of people in a small house is a little much. We had several gift cards from various occiassions (his birthday - our wedding) and so had to take time for the cashier to scan all the cards. To make a long story short - it took a while...lol. Finally we're on the road to Dalhart and, because he's driving, I get to play with the PSP first.

The game that came with it was a Star Wars game and...needless to say...I'm not very good at it. You realize you're getting older when you have to use the headphones to hear the game over the noise of the car on the highway. I also had to hold the PSP at a certain angle to be able to see the screen! Man...I'm only 31!!! Thanksgiving was great. My grandmother is an excellent cook and I was able to spend time with my aunts and their familys - some I haven't seen in a while. We did play a game - Catch Phrase - and that was a lot of fun, although very loud and noisy. My team lost...guess I'm not very good at that game either! We drove back to Amarillo and spent the evening at my parents house eating popcorn and playing games...I won that one, BTW. By the time we got home, we were tired and ready to hit the sack.

Friday we did spend most of the day doing a lot of nothing (we're not ones to go shopping on "Black Friday" - too many people for us!), but that evening we went over to my sister-in-law's house for a birthday party for our neice and one of our nephews. My in-laws had just gotten into town so we had a chance to visit with them. We hadn't seen them since our wedding.

The next morning we were up and had breakfast with my husband's parents. After that we went and did some shopping, which took most of the day (Hobby Lobby, Gander Mountain, La-Z-Boy). About mid-afternoon we realize that we were supposed to have taken the frozen rolls out of the freezer to defrost prior to baking for our Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner later that afternoon. WHOOPS! We rush to Sam's and pick up some yummy pre-made rolls, rush home to make the green-bean casserole ("must have" for Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner), and barely make it over to my sister-in-law's house in time for dinner. There were probably close to 22 people in the house. Another wild and crazy time, especially since we opened Christmas presents as well. We had a great time and I wouldn't change things for anything in the world!

I went back to work on Monday, though, ready to get back to work so I could get a little bit of rest. :)
